The regulations for the Granfondo Milan – San Remo Cicloturistica have been brought up to date to guarantee the greatest safety for participants.
Its 296 km course makes the Granfondo Milan – San Remo Cicloturistica the longest amateur cycling event in the world, but also poses diverse problems resulting from the way it crosses the densely populated zones of Lombardy, Piedmont and Liguria.
As it is not possible to obtain authorisation to close roads to traffic, or even reduce the lanes of vital arterial roads such as the SS75 Pavese and the SS1 Aurelia, the organisation, at the request of participants in the last edition and of the authorities, have made several changes to the rules to guarantee the maximum security to participants.
We would like to restore the same authentic cicloturistica spirit of the event that was the original concept of the event initiated by UC Sanremo at the end of the Sixties.
Most important is the timing of the start which will be “a la francais” between 7:00 and 7:30 in the morning.
Secondly, the rankings will be derived from timed sections on the three legendary climbs of the Milan – San Remo professionals’ race: the Turchino, the Cipressa and the Poggio di Sanremo.
Otherwise it is vital that you approach the other sections of the course at the appropriate cicloturistica pace, avoiding dangerous speeds in the sections with the most intense road traffic.
Participation in the Granfondo Milan – San Remo Cicloturistica should in fact be a great celebration of cycling in which once a year there is the opportunity to retrace the same roads as those taken by the great champions.
