For the 105th edition, which is programmed for Sunday 23rd March 2014, the Professional Milan – San Remo Classicissima will take place without the climb of the Manie, which has marked the latest editions, and will be substituted by the climb of the Pompeiana.
The organizers of RCS Sport have decided to insert this new climb, 5 kilometres long, between Cipressa and Poggio, with the intention of making the route of the Classicissima even more spectacular, with the finish even more uncertain.
From the Aurelia, the road narrows slightly, and outside the village flattens and faces a very hard 500 metres characterized by two turns (right-left), with a slope of 10 to 14%. This is followed by a slight slope with a narrow track up to the top of the climb (20.7 km from the arrival) and then up to Castellaro, where the descent begins (technical, characterized by twists and turns). This leads to Arma di Taggia where it re-enters the Auralia and the historic route. From here it is only 4.4 km to the attack of the Poggio. The finish line on the Lungomare Italo Calvino in San Remo remains unchanged.
The San Remo UC is considering the innovation in the competition of the professionals and will evaluate the insertion of the new climb of Pompeiana in the route of the Granfondo Milano – San Remo Cicloturistica, which at the moment remains faithful to the route of the Milan – San Remo Centenary (2009).
