Via Aurelia: change of route due to landslide

Via Aurelia: change of route due to landslide

We hereby notify all participants in the Granfondo Milan – San Remo of Sunday 5th June 2016 that because of a landslide on the Via Aurelia in the locality of Arenzano (Ge), the route will be changed at the locality of Ovada (Al).

It will not proceed to the classic Passo del Turchino, but will take the road that leads to the Brik Berton (the itinerary followed by the professionals in the Milan – San Remo in 2000). From the detour of Ovada (Al), the road follows a slight slope for about 4 km, then begins an ascent of about 11 km with an average gradient of 7%, with a small section in the middle part reaching 13%.
We advise all participants a ratio of 34×26, and for the less fit a ratio of 34×28.

Next the route will follow a very long descent that leads to the municipality of Sassello (Sv), after which, still going downhill, it will reach a bend with traffic lights directing one way traffic in both directions, where you will have to be very careful.
Proceeding on, the route will reach Albissola Marina (Sv) where it will continue along the classic course.
